Daggermark Politics of Book 1

The Chelaxian faction capitalized on the goodwill generated by their uncanny skill in providing food to the city in the most difficult of times.  Tayo Jeggare has placed on the agenda of this year's Outlaw Council (to be held in Arodus at end of summer) a vote to recognize Razmiran as one of the official River Kingdoms.

This would normally cause outrage in the streets, but for three significant points:

First, and most importantly, during the time of the Siege, Razmir's army defeated the city of Shorestep from the Duchy of Melcat.  Rumors trickle into Daggermark that Razmir turned the entire city into ghouls who answer his call, or that he immolated them all overnight, leaving nothing of their remains but ash.  Shorestep was renamed Thronestep and declared the capital of his nation. Razmir's name commands fear across the Kingdoms.

Second, everyone knows who brought the meat during the Winter of Need:  Jeggare, D'Fehr, and the Chelaxians.  Throughout the winter, the Rim of Hell was open, warm, and full of good cheer despite the frozen hell everywhere else.

Third, on the last day of Gozran, Cheliax officially recognized Razmiran, offering trade priveleges across its routes on Lake Encarthan.  This threatens Daggermark's trade agreements, creates a political conflict with the river kingdoms of Tymon and Lambreth, and most importantly appears to subordinate the Daggermark regional food supply to Cheliax.
